Seen both Christmas and Easter ones. Now I can catch up again on the stuff I've missed. Go me.

Must avoid friends list...

No, I still have not seen the Christmas episode of Who yet.

Yes, I am going to. I want to.

If you don't see my comments for a bit, it's because I want no spoilers.

Retail is one of my favorite newspaper comics. Today's cartoon was win. (if I just don't start the "he's not doctor who, he's The Doctor, damnit!" mode...)

Five things meme

1) Post a list of five things you currently love/like, and five things you currently hate/dislike.
2) They can be people, places, things, ideas, whatever.
3) Tag five people to do this.

I currently love:

1. The voice of my current love interest, because he is the aural equivalent of a warm sweater.
2. Plain Hershey's chocolate bars.
3. The Tv Tropes web site.
4. Catching up on classic Who by reading the novels I can get at Powells cheaply.
5. The movie I saw on Monday that is probably going to be my new fandom.

I currently hate or dislike:

1. The Yankees. Just because.
2. People who start writing perfectly good fic and don't update for months and months.
3. Journey's End and the resolution thereof.
4. People on the El who think it's funny to grab books you are reading/yank headphones off your head and otherwise be obnoxious.
5. My penniless status.

I tag no one, just because I'm mean like that.

Thinky question

Is anyone else intimidated about joining new fandoms? I usually am, which is one reason I use this journal for them and not my personal one. (also, about ninety percent of the personal one is private entries anyway...) I'm saying this because I have a few links to lj groups devoted to a new fandom I am interested in, but can't make the final step to join or watch. Since I don't write fic, most of my stuff is commentary or compliments on other people's fic, but I just don't know... (the fact in this new one I ship is a problem, I suppose, as well.)

Writer's Block: Where Names Come From

Is there a story behind your real name or avatar? How did you end up being called that?

My avatar is simply a picture of an orc riding a wolf. Since I am the orc lair, I felt it was appropriate.

The title of my journal, Fort Mazim, comes from a book I have written but not published. It is a real fort in the book that was made by orcs. "Mazim" means "chaos." Why orcs? I've always rooted for the underdog (a consequence of being a Red Sox fan, I suppose) and I've always harbored a dislike for elves since I started reading fantasy and noticed they are almost always portrayed in a positive light, and orcs are conversely almost always portrayed in a negative light. So when I made my own fantasy world and wrote it, I inverted this and I use orc motifs quite a bit. Also, when I play Magic games, I never use elf cards. I own one elf card in total, and that is just so I have all of one loose set of creatures.

The book meme

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

That book list taken from a million different people!!

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them.

Wow, forty-six books read. If i read the ones I want to read then I'll have read over half the list. I have no idea what that makes me.
